What's new

Failing clutches.

I decided to order the TAPP primary & secondary (along with the tools) from Evo. Their cover mod is supposed to be available in a week or so, so it’s on order too.

Might be overly cautious on my part, but I’d rather not have to deal with getting the H2 repaired/replaced in th event of a catastrophic failure. Besides, the TAPP clutches are pretty… 🤩

I have a brand new Right Coast cover and titanium bolt set available if anyone’s interested. Just got them last week.

The Tapp clutches are nice. Curious to see what EVO has come up with so the cover can be used with the Tapp clutches.

I am taking my car to the dealer first week of February so they can look at my clutches and see what Kawi has to say. I am on belt 4 and I think I have an alignment issue along with something is up with the secondary as it gets stupid hot compared to the primary.

I would be inclined to get the Tapp secondary, if Kawi does not have a solution.

My opinion is if you have not ordered the TAPP clutches I’d wait. Kawasaki has to be working on a fix and know the recall is knocking on their door. If not the lawsuits will be. If you put aftermarket clutches on your car it probably will remove you from any recalled & replacement clutches, especially if they know or see the aftermarket clutches in the car. And like Can Am don’t be surprised if they don’t scan social media to see who is voiding warranty or liability’s.

At this point I’d ride it out and document the crap out of it. I’d take the car in for inspection and start building a case on it. Take it in to the dealer like Sand Shark is doing and get it documented. Tell them your concerns, how many belts you broke. Are your clutches alined or out of alignment? Any trips get shortened due to broken belts or issues.

Not only will you have more leverage, but if something happens you’re covered. My friend was part of the Polaris Pro XP clutch and fuel fitting recall and apart of the “settlement” so to speak Polaris was offering payouts. He got $6500 for lose of use, payments made during the stop ride recall, and time it was in the shop. Half that time was the off season for us, but that did not matter.

Well, I have ordered the TAPPs already. And would prefer a proven solution rather than wait for Kawasaki. I believe Kawasaki will eventually remedy the issue, but I’m not inclined to wait and/or worry it’s going to grenade on every ride.

No problems so far, but I only have 120 miles on it. I have the break in service scheduled in a couple weeks as well. Probably won’t have the TAPPs beforehand.

Just saw that Kawi is replacing the car for that guy that recently had his clutch explode in Glamis.
Not surprised, every one that I’ve heard of exploding, Kawi has replaced the car in a week. One guy said that Kawi approved the dealer to transfer all his accessories over to the new car, and was not charged for doing it.

Hopefully Kawi has figured out what is causing the clutches to explode and have a fix for all.

They will. No way they ignore this.

My question is, Just like with Speed how did they get to production and all of the sudden they are having all these clutch issues, axles popping out etc.. Makes me think testing was lacking, which I can’t imagine. Or it’s a supplier mass production quality issue.

Just read another one exploded, and the dealer put new clutches on it, but the owner just found frame damage, so it’s going back to the dealer to have them notify Kawi. I’m sure Kawi will swap that one out too.

I do not think it is from a lack of testing other than maybe in the dunes. Japanese companies do not just throw stuff out to the public and see what happens. The end user will always find something to break. Axles seems to be a rock bouncer/back east trail issue more than desert. Axles most of the time is a user error issue. Although I believe MTS has killed some rear axles, but that is likely due to them never lifting in the whoops testing their shock tunes.

The one owner I talked to at Glamis had a front axle pop out and Kawi put a spacer as it appeared the axles might be a hair to short and they replaced his front diff. Remember Polaris had the issue of the front axles popping out on the Turbo S due to the circa clip not seating properly.

What I would love to confirm is if the rear axles are the same other than onside has left handing thread for the castle nut. I do not want to have to buy two separate rear axles for the multiple day desert trips.

It’s crazy, I’ve asked and can’t seem to get an answer. Dealers and parts guys mine as well be first week on the job at Auto Zone. They don’t know crap, all they know how to say is year & model. The guy at Super ATV was going to see what he can find out. I spoke to a guy who was all about the KRX as I suspected allot of parts and concept crosses over and he could not tell me if the KRX were the same or different.

Yeah, I am waiting for Super ATV to confirm the rear axles are the same side to side other than the thread for the castle nut.

Yeah if it’s just RH & LH threads, then it’s no big deal and I’d just buy RH thread axles.

I don’t know if there is any validity to this. But it was mentioned it could be the engine harmonics and the way the Super Charger is driven off the crankshaft that’s causing some of the clutch issues. It’s my understanding the SC is gear driven off the crankshaft and so is the primarily clutch. The boost is dependent on RPM and both the SC and clutch are direct drive off the crankshaft.

I don’t know much if anything about Super Chargers but it’s the first UTV and might be the first CVT connected to a SC. This was brought up after mentioning the H2 that grenaded a primary clutch just backing off a trailer. Which would be at low rpm’s. But maybe the way the SC is building boost it’s transferring that shock through the crank to the CVT which has weights & sheaves trying to grab a belt sending a load back through the crank to the Super Charger direct drive gears.

This could be way off and not remotely connected, but I don’t know?

I also saw another video of a H2 with 11 miles on it and stock clutch weights were pitting really bad.
