Not sure about the removable cover, but the OEM assembly fishes out fine once the right rear is jacked up. I'm thinking it might have to do with all the weight I have on the back. Spare tire, low profile box and about 30 lbs of tools/jack/recovery gear. I have more weight than I should in the back as I have a cordless ratchet and impact and other comforts for easy wrenching. So the springs are already compressed.
